The lowered 2025 Ford Maverick Lobo is a surprise addition to the lineup, and even comes with a trick rear differential and other nifty features.

The refreshed 2025 Ford Maverick just made its official debut yesterday, ushering in a number of changes including a new front fascia, the return of the hybrid as the standard powerplant – which can now be paired with AWD for the first time – along with the addition of a 13.2-inch SYNC 4 touchscreen as standard. However, The Blue Oval wasn’t quite done with its ever-popular compact pickup just yet, as now, it has now revealed the sporty 2025 Ford Maverick Lobo as well.

The 2025 Ford Maverick Lobo gets its name from the Mexican word for “wolf,” which FoMoCo has used in place of the F-150 nameplate in that market for some years now. Now, the Lobo moniker comes to the U.S. adorning a pretty interesting vehicle, one that aims to bring back the old sport truck movement of years past (before everything became about off-roading). In this case, it does so with a combination of sporty styling and a handful of very interesting mechanical upgrades, too.

Indeed, the 2025 Ford Maverick Lobo is inspired by the mini-truck/sport truck era of the 1980s-2000s, as well as certain consumer builds of that nature, plus designer Josh Blundo, who dreamed up a sportier version of the Maverick that inspired the one-off SEMA build from Tucci Hot Rods back in 2021. That much is evident from the exterior, which features a unique front-end design, a painted rear bumper, rocker moldings, 19-inch black wheels, and a black-painted roof, all coupled with a ride height that’s 0.5 inches lower up front and 1.12 inches lower in the rear when compared to the regular Maverick.

Inside the cabin, the 2025 Ford Maverick Lobo takes inspiration from designer Kristen Keenan and her love for street art, streetwear, and shoes, with features including Grabber Blue and Electric Lime accent stitching, a graffiti-inspired overprint on the seats, and the Lobo name embossed into the black driver and passenger seats.

Customers can choose from two specs – standard and high – with the latter configuration adding goodies such as a heated steering wheel, heated seats, Ford Co-Pilot360 2.0, a 360-degree camera, a spray-in bedliner, a moonroof, Pro Trailer Hitch Assist, and Pro Trailer Backup Assist.

Mechanically speaking, the 2025 Ford Maverick Lobo is designed to offer sports car-like performance, thanks to the addition of tuned steering, along with torque vectoring via a twin-clutch rear drive unit, an upgraded cooling system borrowed from the 4K Tow Package, a transmission oil cooler, and larger brakes with dual-piston front calipers taken from the Focus ST.

The sportier Maverick even features a new Lobo drive mode, which improves cornering performance, grip, and stability, all while helping to minimize understeer. However, Lobo mode is intended for track use only, as it reduces stability control intervention while enhancing torque delivery. As for power, it comes from the standard turbocharged 2.0-liter EcoBoost I-4, though it doesn’t get any sort of boost over the stock unit.

UPDATE – In fact, for customers who live in California or states that follow CA emissions, the 2.0L EcoBoost in all 2025 Mavericks is now rated to 238 peak horsepower, down from 250 hp. The reason? Ford added a new gas particulate filter to meet California’s regulations for the model year. However, for customers who live in states that do NOT follow CA regulations, peak power will remain at 250 hp.

Order banks for the 2025 Ford Maverick Lobo are scheduled to open up today, August 1, for the High configuration. Pricing starts at $42,090 with destination and delivery. The standard configuration model starts at $36,595 with destination and delivery, and order banks will open later this year. Both variants will be available in early 2025.
