2020 Ford F-350 Super Duty Prototype Spied Testing!
Aggressive new styling isn’t the only thing this 2020 Ford F-350 wears. If rumors are true, it’s got new mechanicals, too.
It might not seem like it, but the current Super Duty lineup is getting a little long in the tooth. Well, at least by modern standards, when trucks see a midcycle refresh every two years. Thus, it’s nearly time for Ford to update its lineup of heavy duty trucks. So it’s also no surprise that we recently caught this 2020 Ford F-350 prototype out testing on public roads.
At first glance, despite the heavy camo, it’s easy to spot some major styling differences between this 2020 Ford F-350 mule and today’s Super Duty lineup. For starters, the grille is missing the current model’s large horizontal bars. Smaller, rectangular bars with hollow centers take their place, with the requisite Blue Oval logo “floating” in the center.
Otherwise, the design isn’t a radical departure by any means. Which coincides with Ford’s traditional approach to mid-cycle refreshes like the 2018 F-150. However, current reports suggest that the Super Duty will undergo changes beyond your typical styling updates. Reportedly, a new V8 engine and the adaptation of Ford’s 10-speed automatic transmission are also in the works.
These changes come at a critical time for Ford, as both Chevrolet and Ram are just rolling out brand new heavy duty truck offerings. Which, given Ford’s impeccable timing, appears to be well thought out. The revamped ’18 F-150 successfully countered both all-new light-duty Silverado and Ram offerings. And the revised Super Duty lineup seems poised to do just that.
This 2020 Ford F-350 sighting is likely the first leak that we’ll be treated to over the next several months. And we wouldn’t be surprised to see a full unveiling at the 2019 Detroit Auto Show. In the meantime, stay tuned!
