Intro

It is natural for people to think of towing trailers, hauling payloads, and off-roading when they hear someone mention Ford trucks. And for good reason. Ford trucks are the best in the business when it comes to doing the dirty work and playing in the mud. That's one of the reasons Ford sells so many of them. However, some Ford trucks do not have towing and hauling as their primary focus. Ford has made some fun street performance trucks over the years as well. Today we are listing ten of our favorites. They are not necessarily the fastest or most powerful. But each of these trucks would be fun for a summer cruise down your favorite back road. If you want to also throw some mulch in the bed while you are at it, that is fine too. If not, just sit back and enjoy the drive.

1. F-150 FP700

Last year Ford announced the FP700 Bronze and Black Edition packages for the F-150. They can be fitted to most 2021 – 2023 F-150s equipped with the 5.0L V8. The highlight of either package is the 3.0L Whipple supercharger that helps boost output to 700 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque. The package comes with a warranty and is CARB certified in all 50 states. You also get some special wheels and badging. The color of which is determined by which package you choose. Either way you got yourself a great street truck.

2. First Generation F-150 Lightning

The first-generation F-150 Lightning made from 1993 to 1995 is the OG sport truck. Thanks to a 5.8L Windsor V8 making 240 horsepower and 340 pound-feet of torque the can hit 60 mph in just over 7 seconds. That may seem like a very long time in 2024 but that was decent quickness 30 years ago. The truck also sits lower than a standard F-150 of the time and has a tweaked suspension. It is no Ford GT, but you can still have a lot of fun in this truck today.

3. Second Generation F-150 Lightning

Do you love the F-150 Lightning concept but need a bit more muscle? Then the second-generation Lightning might be the perfect truck for you. Returning in 1999 with a 360 horsepower Eaton-supercharged V8 (bumped up to 380 horsepower for 2001), this is a much more powerful truck. 0 to 60 mph times were cut by two full seconds. And thanks to fat rubber and fender flares, this is a more aggressive-looking truck as well. Plus, much like the Terminator Mustangs, supercharger whine is the jam!

4. F-150 Harley Davidson

Ford has created a number of F-150 Harley Davidson editions over the years. And we are lumping them all into one category here because they are all great fun. Some have more power and performance than others. But they all have unique looks that make the HD connection quite clear. The HD Edition based on the tenth generation F-150 like the one pictured here used a normally aspirated V8 for the 2000 model year but gained a supercharger in 2001 that bumped horsepower up to 340.

5. Maverick Lobo

It is not here yet, but the 2025 Maverick Lobo is coming. This special Maverick is all about on road performance. It comes with a lowered ride height, specially tuned suspension, a torque-vectoring twin-clutch rear drive unit, and bigger brakes will make the Lobo feel at home on an autocross course. And no sport truck can be complete without a special design and the Lobo has it. A unique front fascia, painted rear bumper, and wicked looking 19-inch black wheels are some of the highlights.

6. 2023 Shelby Super Snake

This is our most expensive truck on the list but also the most powerful with 775 supercharged horsepower on tap. But this is a Shelby so there is a hell of a lot more with this truck besides big power. There are FOX shocks, 22-inch chrome alloy wheels wrapped in street performance tires, a dual intake ‘ram air’ hood with vents and a whole heck of a lot more. This is the only truck on the list to wear a Shelby badge. If you want the ultimate Ford street truck, this is it.

7. Ford Ranger MS-RT

Our friends in the UK have one over on us yanks. They get to enjoy the new Ford Ranger MS-RT and we don’t. It is powered by a diesel engine which is not typically what you would want in a street truck. But the MS-RT has the goods everywhere else. The lowered Ranger sits on 21-inch wheels with low‑profile 275/45 R21 tires that are tucked under flared arches. The suspension has been tuned for street handling. The looks with the special front fascia and sculpted side skirts tell the world that this is not your average work-a-day Ranger.

8. 1998 F-150 NASCAR Edition

3,000 of these trucks were built to celebrate 50 years of the racing series. This is mostly a style package as there is no extra power or suspension upgrades or anything of the sort. However, the style upgrades a terrific. If you are a fan of NASCAR of course. The highlight has the be the black wheels wrapped in yellow letter Goodyear tires. You might not be going any faster than the other trucks on the road but you will be making a statement. The one you see pictured here crossed the Mecum auction block back in 2022.

9. 2014 F-150 Tremor

If you say Ford Tremor today most folks will think of a rugged off-road package that can be found on several current Truck models. But that was not always the case. A decade ago, the F-150 Tremor was a different thing entirely. The F-150 Lightning was gone. The Raptor was there for off-road thrills but there was no real street performance truck left in the Ford lineup. That is where the Tremor came in. It features an EcoBoost engine with 365 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque. It also features an electronic-locking rear differential. Exterior cues include a set of black wheels and hockey stick side stripes. It may not be the quickest truck ever, but it can hit 60 mph in less than 6 seconds, and it looks the part. This one sold on Bring a Trailer for almost $35,000 earlier this year.

10. 2022 Ford Ranger Splash

These trucks are all about lighthearted fun. They don’t make big power or have big, sticky tires and lowered suspensions. But they are still fun street trucks because they offer a bold style. They might not be for everyone, but for some folks, these are the ideal trucks. The 2022 Splash models were inspired by the appearances package offered back in the 1990s. These trucks feature orange grille nostrils, plus gloss black accents on the grille, bumpers, rearview mirror caps, wheel lip moldings and fender vents. The wheels are painted matte black. Inside the truck is plenty of orange contrast stitching. If you want to make a splash off-road, look for a truck with the FX2 or FX4 Package.
