The bearing race is the sheet metal part that holds the needle bearings in place. If the race breaks the needle bearings fall out and end up in the pan.

Mark, thanks for chiming in. Is this a rare failure. I don't ever recall anyone else have that problem.

I don't want to argue with the trans guru, and maybe bearing part terminology is different in transmissions. But from all the bearings I have worked on the bearing race is the inner and outer part that the rollers or ***** ride on, the sheet metal part that holds the roller or ***** spaced out and in their spots is called a "cage" or "bearing cage".

The thrust beariings contain needles that are housed between two metal interlocking plates. They are referred to as Torrington bearings.

Yep, you're right, I was distracted while I was typing. I was describing the cage, not the race.

Just checking to see how things are going? Did the tranny situation get resolved?

I got the truck back last week.
The local shop was great, but took way too long in my opinion.
Truck is running well in most of the settings, but I think the throttle is a little too sensitive on the higher hp settings.
